Requirements
Mobilink, a company forming part of the Orascom Telecom group, is a major player on the Pakistan mobile market. The first provider of GSM services in the history of the country, it has today reached a customer basis of over 24 million subscribers. To diversify its offer and enhance its growth, Mobilink has given over the design and implementation of a Mobile TV streaming platform on a GPRS network to interact.
Goals
The project aims to enable users to see and listen directly to their favourite radio or television channels and provides a wide range of contents on demand ranging from news, sports news and music.
Implementation
In collaboration with the Arpu+ (Mobizone) service provider, interact has designed the technological infrastructure supporting Mobilink TV, the portal dedicated to audio/video streaming services. The key component to this infrastructure is the interact Video System that manages the entire work-flow of the Mobile TV automatically, from content capture, organisation and transmission towards the users. The system fully exploits the technological characteristics of MPEG-4 and 3GPP mobile streaming, standards recognised worldwide for creating, broadcasting and copying multimedia contents onto third generation mobile networks. The live channels offered comprise 4 FM stations and 4 TV television channels (AAG TV, Geo News, Geo TV and Geo Sport.
Results achieved
interact with Mobilink TV supplies an overall turnkey solution enabling Pakistan operators to rapidly integrate video and multimedia services in its portfolio.
